I wonder sometimes if I’m sane. What with the thoughts that come into my head, of different fantasies, of fairies and elves, it’s hard to convince myself otherwise. Is anyone really sane in this world? All of us have some part of our subconscious that brings to the surface a strange vision, though it differs from person to person. We see things differently, though it may or may not have anything to do with our eyes. I think it has to do with the feelings in our hearts. Take, for example, the way three people see a dandelion.
A gardener looks at it and thinks, “Ugh, a disgusting weed”. Another man, a scientist, looks at it and thinks, “Ah, a perfect specimen of Taraxacum offinale!” Then we come to the author, who thinks, “Oh, a dandelion. Maybe I could write a story of a tiny creature that lives in this pretty little flower”. I wonder what you think when you see the little flower?
If my observation sounds strange to you, that’s okay. Just take this as the late night ramblings of someone with a big imagination. If otherwise, then keep reading.
I want to say one last thing. All people are like dandelions. Now before you get mad, just give me a second to explain myself.
Some people look at themselves and others like the gardener looks at our little friend the dandelion. They judge because they can’t see past appearances; they refuse to look inside the person they see, even if the person is them.
Some people look and see something to be used for a certain end, to accomplish some goal. They want to use people to get what they want, and care nothing for other people’s feelings.
Then there are the few who see past everything, who look closer to find something worthwhile. I love meeting people like this, who see the good in others, and believe me, there’s always good in everyone, even if that person is the worst monster the world has every known, though that goodness is usually squashed by the evil. Sorry, off topic. The point I’m trying to make is that everyone needs to view others and themselves as the author sees the dandelion. You have to see the potential that isn’t obvious at first. Find the good, and hold on to it. And to all of you who think that you have no worth, you are completely and absolutely WRONG! You’re a treasure that needs a little polishing. Your true worth cannot be measured by anything known to man. Don’t let anyone or anything make you think otherwise. Trust in yourself. I’ll be cheering you on from here.
